Not a Question of Logic.

If you ever took “Philosophy 101,” you will most likely remember working out those necessary and sufficient statements. One pondered whether it was possible to have Y without X and / or did X guarantee the presence of Y? If you didn’t muddle through these kinds of statements, you will recognize the type of statement as the “If, Then” form. Every parent and every child is familiar with the relationship between conditions and consequences. These opening statements may seem a strange way to start a testimonial, but they were spurred by the following disclaimer, which can be seen at the top of this web page:

One can translate this to Y ≠ X or X is not sufficient for Y. In this litigious society, one is prudent to issue such statements, but I disagree that they are required in Mr. Krasa’s case. Nothing in life is guaranteed, but we can make good choices for potentially better outcomes. We didn’t read the testimonials or his disclaimer. We chose him because we recognized an old fashioned value: probity, defined as “the quality of having strong moral principles; honesty and decency.” An additional definition also applies: “Strict adherence to a code of ethics based on undeviating honesty, especially in commercial (monetary) matters and beyond legal requirements.” Thus, without reservations, he is our choice for our family’s estate planning, because what Mr. Krasa offers goes well “beyond legal requirements.”

I first met Kyle while serving on the Board of Directors of the Meals on Wheels program of the Monterey Peninsula in Pacific Grove. I have been in the field of aging for 30 years in several capacities, but primarily as the Academic Coordinator of The Resource Center on Aging at the University of California, Berkeley.  During those years I have met and worked with countless professionals, and have never encountered anyone more competent, and at the same time kind-hearted and considerate than Kyle.  Thus, when my then 93-year-old mother wanted to modify her will and trust, I immediately contacted him.  He did a superior job presenting options for change succinctly and clearly.  After the modifications - at my mom's request - he notified everyone involved, and provided everyone with a searchable copy of the document on a compact disc as well as a hard copy.  But, to me, as important as his legal expertise, Kyle treated mom with the respect an elder deserves.
